Mousse and Louis are young and in love. Their drug use, however, brings an abrupt end to their romance. When they accidentally take an overdose of heroin, Louis dies. Mousse wakes up from her coma and hears she is pregnant, by Louis. She flees Paris in order to come to terms with Louis’s death in a small coastal town. Months later, Louis’s brother Paul knocks on her door. Her pregnancy also releases emotions in him. After Sous le sable (2000) and Le temps qui reste (2005), Le refuge is the last part of French director François Ozon’s trilogy about death.
