We got an insight into the deepest layers of the underworld of Naples in the festival opening film at the 16th edition of Titanic International Film Festival.

The movie
Gomorrah is based on Roberto Saviano’s bestseller of the same title which unveils with brutal frankness the activity of the most notorious Italian maffia, the camorra in Naples. Since the publishing of his book the author has become the primary target of the crime organisations, all his movements being watched by bodyguards. In the film version Matteo Garrone director and his fellow screenwriters used only a few elements of the book, still they conceive a similarly accusing, cruelly realistic, almost documentarist style critic about the darkest milieu of the Italian society. The story is divided into five different threads which are linked by the determinedness of the characters’ lives by the maffia, impossible to stand up against.
Gomorrah
won the Jury Grand Prize at Cannes Film Festival 2008, and
the European Film Academy announced it the best European motion picture of the same year.
The film is distributed in Hungary by Szuez Film.
Matteo Garrone’s work will have two public screenings at Titanic festival beginning today: on March 26th in Toldi Cinema and on March 28th in KINO.
Our honoured guest at the Opening Gala was one of the lead actors,
Salvatore Cantalupo, who will be delighted to answer to the viewers’ questions in Toldi Cinema.
